Car Insurance

Cars are expensive commodities and a royalty for many. However, road accidents are also a reality and there is nothing that can be done to avoid it. If you are careful, there is a good chance that the other is not, but the brunt of the damage has to be borne by both parties. While it is compulsory to buy a minimum of third party insurance in all states to keep the interests of the general public alive, one may chose to buy additional insurance for themselves and their car. This would mean the insurance company would absorb the entire medical expenses and the damages to the car in case of an accident.

Due to the high probability of an accident, always make sure that the car insurance cover to be bought is good and the insurance agency offers quality service. Opting for a cheap cover may result in either the agency not recognizing the claim or a hefty amount being paid from your own pockets. Safety by no means should be compromised on, irrespective of the costs that might have to be paid for it (do not take this on face value and buy the most expensive insurance policy too).

The auto insurance cover comes in different shapes and sizes. They differ on the following clauses:

a) What is being insured? The car, the driver, third party or all.

b) What is the total amount of the insurance cover?

c) Duration of the insurance policy.

d) Addition features, for example, in case of accidents, the car would be replaced or repaired.

Depending upon the car driven and the total security needed, the policy amount would be evaluated and the premium cost calculated. This value can come down if the driver has all the safety norms in place and has undergone additional security lessons like defense driving, which can really turn expensive car insurance into cheap car insurance. On the contrary, the amount would go up for rugged drivers who have a bad driving history.

At this point, asking the agent representing your deal about all the fine lines becomes important. At times, under the assumption and taking the promoted insurance cost (this is the minimum cost for the policy and is only applicable in the best case scenario) as their cost, many people end up going over their budget which is much against everyone's interest. The agents are responsible for clearing all aspects of the policy. A good agent is that who offers to find a way even in the hardest of times and can suggest measures to reduce the overall rates.

The following is the checklist of all that should be done before signing a deal:

a) Looking around for the different deals offered by various car insurance companies

b) Reading the offer documents

c) Whether the policy is in budget and suits all cases against which an insurance is required

d) Measures to reduce the total costs have been taken

Once this list has been completed, the best policy would be in hand. Buy the policy and be safe on the roads till it needs to be renewed again.
